Vandals sought after tires slashed on 12 vehicles in Darby

DARBY, Pa. (WPVI) -- Police are looking for the vandals who slashed tires on at least a dozen vehicles Wednesday morning in Darby, Pennsylvania.

The incident happened sometime after 2:30 a.m. on the 1100 block of Chestnut Street.

"I don't understand. There's no reason. I don't know what anyone would get out of doing something like this," said Gail Boyd, victim.

"I don't know what to say. I got up this morning, and the neighbor knocked on the door and said the tires had been slashed on my cars," said Alexander Boyd, victim.

The Boyds had not one, but three tires slashed on two vehicles.

They got an estimate for repairs totally roughly $350.

"It's just absolutely ridiculous, and its people that come out of this neighborhood. It's not this neighborhood so I wish they would just stay where they are," said Gail Boyd. "Maybe they could do their own car. See how their mom and dad like it."

Police don't know who is responsible, but investigators suspect juveniles.

In all, 11 tires were cut with a knife on nine vehicles.

"Well you see a lot of kids hanging around with nothing to do. That's what I would think," said Louisa Romanelli, Darby.

Police say they haven't had any other tire slashings recently, and the crime is unusual for the area.

"I am gonna tell you what I am going to do. I am going to keep a sharp eye out cause I don't go to bed until after 2 in the morning," said Alexander Boyd. "Rest assured I'll be checking on the street."

Police were searching the area for any surveillance cameras, but we're being told the surveillance is not operational.
