West Chester's Shabazz focused on NFL Draft

Al Hajj Shabazz is hard at work.

After all, there's no better way to burn off some nervous energy as you wait to hear your name called the week of the NFL Draft.

"We just wait. It's the waiting game right now. Parents are getting nervous a little bit," Shabazz said with a deep breath.

The West Chester senior cornerback and Bartram High product is projected as a late-round pick or priority free agent.

"There's been a lot of people who have coming here the last few days to make sure they have his cell phone number and where he's going to be, so that's all good signs," West Chester football coach Bill Zwaan said.

If he's drafted, he'd be the first for the Division II Rams since Lee Woodall way back in 1994.

Shabazz actually worked out for Chip Kelly and the Eagles coaching staff a few weeks back.

"I think I'm a heck of a special teams' guy. I know I can play corner. I think I can play safety, as well. I think versatility is something I really bring to the table. And NFL teams should see what I can do," Shabazz said.

"He's a character, but in a really good way," Zwaan said.

"It's just something you wish for since you were a kid. When you get that phone call, honestly, wherever I'm at, everyone's going to know about it," Shabazz said.
