OLD CITY (WPVI) -- A mother is still searching for justice nearly six years after her son was gunned down inside his apartment in Old City.

"My son was passionate about art and music," said Linda Champion, mother.

It was his deep love of music that Champion says drew her son Walter out with friends on Friday evening November, 20th, 2009.

"He loved to go to the Khyber Pass in those days because they had live music," said Champion.

Following happy hour, the 30-year-old went back to his apartment in the 40 block of South 3rd Street.

Walter, his roommate and a couple other people then ordered pizza.

"They ate the pizza, his roommate and the friends left. I think his roommate was escorting them down the street and when his roommate came home my son had been shot twice," said Champion.

Walter was found just after 9:30 p.m. He was taken to the hospital where he died the following morning.

"The most important thing about my son is how much we loved him and how much we miss him," said Champion.

The Citizens Crime Commission is administering a reward through the City of Philadelphia.

You could be eligible for up to $20,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible.

All you need to do is call 215-546-TIPS (8477). All calls will remain anonymous.

"I would hope that they would feel safe enough to come forward and tell police something," said Champion.

When asked about the rash of gun violence in the city, Walter's mother said simply:

"It's tragic. I think there are a lot of parents who are hurting, a lot of children who are hurting. a lot of friends that are hurting," said Champion.
