Ivanka Trump visits Bucks County to promote budget plan

RICHBORO, Pa. (WPVI) -- After the Senate narrowly passed the GOP budget proposal last week, President Trump's daughter and advisor, Ivanka Trump, along with US Treasurer Jovita Carranza visited Richboro, Bucks County to drum-up support for the plan now being considered by the House.

The budget is a plan that Ivanka referred to as a "jobs bill."

"There are many elements of this tax plan that I think are squarely targeted at creating jobs in this country, creating growth in this country, and offering relief to our middle income families," said Presidential Advisor Ivanka Trump.

The proposal would reportedly slash income and corporate taxes with the expectation of stimulating the economy and broadening the tax base with the creation of new jobs and businesses.

But economists project that the plan would also add $7 trillion of debt over the next 10 years and slow growth in the long run.

Many small business owners attended Monday's event at the James Kinney Senior Center in Richboro, most of whom said they will accept any tax break they can get.

"We're struggling to provide benefits to our employees," said Tom McCollough. "We're trying to pay down our debts, and when you do have a little bit of profit, you end up paying it in taxes."

Meanwhile, a few dozen protesters gathered outside saying this was not what they wanted to hear from the first Daughter.

"I thought Ivanka would be a moderating influence on this presidency, but things are just getting worse," said Steve Cickay, of Newtown. "This tax proposal will hurt poor people and the middle class... It's a give-away to the rich."

During a public question and answer session US Treasurer Jovita Carranza was asked if she thinks the budget bill will pass the House. Her answer was short and sweet.

"We're here to make sure it does," said Carranza.
