Woman in custody after man stabbed to death in Center City Philadelphia
CENTER CITY (WPVI) -- A woman is in police custody after a man was fatally stabbed in Center City Philadelphia.
It happened before 7:45 a.m. Friday at 19th and Vine streets.
Officers arrived to find the body of a man in his 50s who had been stabbed multiple times in the face and neck.
He lay in a pool of blood out in the open near popular tourist sites like the Franklin institute, Logan Square and the Philadelphia Free Library.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers made an arrest a short time later at 17th and Vine streets.
Andrew Lucivello says he was getting coffee at Wawa when he noticed two police officers approach a woman.
He knew it was something serious when suddenly the number of police officers swelled to more than a dozen.
"I thought maybe it was shoplifting," he said. "And in a few minutes about 15 to 20 police officers showed up in various vehicles, and they took them away."
There are no details on who the victim was or if he knew his attacker.
But there are usually homeless people who feel safe sleeping in this area.
Lucivello said he recently became homeless after owning a computer business for 30 years.
He's made friends with many others in similar predicaments and worries he may know the victim.
"You always feel sad for somebody that gets hurt," he said. "I was hoping that it wasn't somebody that I knew. Because there are a lot of people (out here) who are in an unfortunate situation right now."
Police continue investigate what led to the deadly stabbing.
