Bicyclist struck and killed by trash truck in Center City

CENTER CITY (WPVI) -- A bicyclist was struck and killed by a trash truck in Center City Philadelphia, police say.

It happened around 7:25 a.m. Tuesday at 11th and Spruce streets.

Police say the 24-year-old woman was riding her bike when she was hit by the trash truck.

She was taken to Jefferson University Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The woman's name has not been released.

Chopper 6 was over the scene as police spoke with the truck driver and examined the victim's bike.

No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation. It is unclear if the driver will face any charges.
