Two New York City police officers shot Thursday night in the Bronx are expected to survive, and investigators said they believe they have all suspects in custody.

MELROSE, Bronx -- Two New York City police officers shot Thursday night in the Bronx are expected to survive, and investigators said they believe they have all suspects in custody.

It happened at 320 E. 156th Street, the Melrose Houses, just after 8 p.m.

Here's the latest information:
- Both officers are stable and alert
- Male officer was shot in the head; female officer shot in the torso
- Both officers were taken to Lincoln Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries
- One suspect shot and killed himself, according to police
- Several other suspects are in custody and being questioned

- Police are not looking for any other suspects
- A firearm has been recovered

City officials said three officers were on routine patrol in the stairwell of a housing project when they encountered two individuals on the sixth floor. One pulled out a gun and shot at the officers, hitting two of them, and took off to the seventh floor.

When officers went to locate the suspect, they found him dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Officers also took the other person who was with him into custody, and they're questioning him.

The officers were rushed to Lincoln Hospital in serious condition. The NYPD reported on Twitter that the officers' conditions were nonlife-threatening at this time.

Mayor Bill de Blasio was delivering his State of the City speech about 5 miles away when the shooting happened. His spokeswoman said he was briefed as soon as he left the stage and was headed to the hospital.
