Nearly 23,000 urged to conserve water in Coatesville, Pennsylvania area

COATESVILLE, Pa. (WPVI) -- Tens of thousands of people in the Coatesville area are being asked to temporarily reduce their water usage under a mandatory conservation order issued by Pennsylvania American Water.

The company said the order affects nearly 23,000 customers. Residents are being asked to limit water use to essential purposes only.

According to Pennsylvania American Water, recent weather-related changes to local water sources have increased the amount of treatment required at its plant.

The company said the added treatment demands are placing additional strain on its filtration systems.

Pennsylvania American Water has not provided a timeline for how long the mandatory water conservation order will remain in effect.

Customers in the affected area are urged to conserve water until further notice.
