93-year-old's death called 'suspicious'; police seek his missing car

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Police are investigating what they describe as the suspicious death of a 93-year-old man whose car and wallet were reported missing.

Lafayette Dailey was found inside his Logan home Friday afternoon with cuts to his head and chest, authorities said. He was pronounced dead shortly after officers arrived.

Investigators are searching for Dailey's white 2007 Chrysler 300 with Pennsylvania license plate GRJ-5294 as they work to determine how he died and whether whoever has the car may have been involved.

Police also said Dailey's wallet and car key were missing.

"He just was the best. That's all I can say. He was the best," said Denene Dancey, Dailey's goddaughter. "Definitely a man of God, but he was just the best man. But he was a man's man. He taught my sons how to be a man. I'm gonna miss him. I love him and I'm going to miss him."

Neighbors described Dailey as friendly and well-liked.

"Everyone loved him. He talks to everybody when they pass. You know, he'll say hello and everything. Really nice guy," said Stump Oliver, who lives nearby.

"He was a cool guy. We always spoke. He sat outside to talk to his neighbors and go back in and mind his own business," said Bobby Bryant, another neighbor.

Dancey said Dailey would have willingly given away anything taken from him. "He didn't deserve that. And whatever they took he would have given it to them. If they asked for it. If they needed it and asked, he would've been like OK, here," she said.

Police have not released additional details about the investigation.
