'Abbott Elementary' star Lisa Ann Walter returns to Helium Comedy Club

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- For the past few summers, Abbott Elementary's Lisa Ann Walter has been bringing her stand up show to Helium Comedy Club in Center City.

Last summer, she filmed a special that's streaming right now on Hulu called "Lisa Ann Walter: It Was An Accident."

This Sunday, she returns with bigger gratitude for our city and a set promising bigger laughs.

Philly has truly become a second home for Walter.

"My love for the town and for the audiences there is real," says Walter. "I feel like it's home."

Walter seamlessly plays Abbott Elementary's South Philly school teacher Melissa Schemmenti.

"We've melded into one," she laughs.

Over the years, Walter's really earned her spot in the hearts of Philadelphians.

She's served as the grand marshall of South Philly's Italian American parade and rode the 6abc Dunkin' Thanksgiving Day Parade.

She's even thrown out the first pitch at a Phillies game.

From her off-Broadway debut in "Heathers" to competing on "Jeopardy!" to appearing on "Dancing with the Stars," Walter is having an incredible year.

On October 7, "Abbott Elementary" returns for a highly anticipated Season 6.

"As soon as LeBron James was announced, I texted Quinta," she says, referring to "Abbott Elementary" creator and star Quinta Brunson. "She was in the writers' room at the time. I have no intel, but I'm manifesting."

One thing we can confirm is that Monday, August 3 is Lisa Ann's birthday and she's celebrating it in Philly with her fans.

"If there's a bakery in town that wants to hook me up, give me a special, you know, Melissa Schemmenti 'I know a guy' deal on a cake, I'm down," she says.

Lisa Ann Walter returns to Helium Comedy from August 2 to August 4.
