Lisa Ann Walter celebrates first standup comedy special on Hulu

PHILADELPHIA -- For the past few summers, "Abbott Elementary" star Lisa Ann Walter has been bringing her stand-up show to Helium Comedy Club in Center City Philadelphia.

Now, you can watch one of those performances in her brand new "Hularious" comedy special called: "Lisa Ann Walter: It Was An Accident."

Walter's friends, family members, and "Abbott Elementary" co-stars celebrated with her in New York City on Monday night.

She says it's a moment that's almost four decades in the making.

"Comedy is the reason that I wanted to be a performer," says Walter. "It was why God put me on the planet - to make people laugh."

In her new standup special, she's standing on stage at Helium Comedy Club in Philadelphia.

"There was a reason why we shot it in Philly," says Walter. "Because they don't fake it there. If you're not funny, they let you know. They let you know when they love you."

There's another reason. Her "Abbott Elementary" co-star and dear friend Sheryl Lee Ralph had a vision.

"She's like, girl, you're going to be on stage with red velvet drapes and a gold jacket. And it's going to be in Philadelphia," says Walter.

Cameras were rolling last summer at a sold-out show, with a room full of her real-deal Philly fans.

"They're bringing the Philly energy," Walter says. "I just feel so much genuine love from the people of Philadelphia."

To say Walter is having a moment is an understatement.

"I feel like a million bucks," she says. "I'm living the most charmed life right now."

"Abbott Elementary" is gearing up for season 6, and Lisa Ann Walter is currently making her off-Broadway debut in the hit show "Heathers."

And when it comes to stand-up, she's soaking in this milestone moment.

"I got a billboard in Times Square," she says. "I cannot believe it. I used to drive through when I was doing stand-up back in the day with my baby in the backseat, and now there's a billboard in the middle of Times Square," she says. "I've been doing this for 37 years, and this is my first special. It just goes to show you, you never know when it's going to happen for you, and it's never too late."

"Lisa Ann Walter: It Was An Accident" is streaming May 15 on Hulu.

The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of Hulu and this ABC station.
