Ex-teacher charged with sexually assaulting student denied bail

WASHINGTON TWP., N.J. (WPVI) -- A former Gloucester County middle school teacher charged with sexually assaulting a student will remain behind bars, a judge ruled Thursday following a detention hearing.

Ashley Fisler, 36, of Washington Township, was arrested last week on eight charges, including sexual assault of a minor, endangering the welfare of a child and official misconduct by a public servant.

According to court documents, the victim - who is now an adult - told police in January there were multiple sexual encounters in 2021, including incidents inside Fisler's vehicle and her classroom at Orchard Valley Middle School.

During a hearing this week, prosecutors revealed investigators recovered approximately 7,500 pages of text messages between the victim and Fisler.

A criminal complaint alleges that Fisler also sent multiple nude photographs to the victim.

Officials say Fisler is no longer employed as a teacher in Washington Township or elsewhere.

Fisler has denied the allegations against her.

She is scheduled to return to court on May 14.
