After brain tumor diagnosis, The Atkins family raises money for lifesaving work at CHOP

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (WPVI) -- This September, hundreds of runners will lace up their shoes to support patients at CHOP.

One young boy, "Nate the Great," will be there representing kids like him who were in the fight.

Thanks to lifesaving medical professionals, the Atkins family stands on the other side of a brain tumor diagnosis with gratitude.

And their way of expressing said gratitude has come back to CHOP, raising over $65k last year.

Now, their sights are set on a new finish line as they continue their fundraising efforts for this year's CHOP Parkway Run & Walk.

"To be able to help another family and treat another child as if they were your own, That brings just such immense meaning to the work that we do here," said Dr. Peter Madsen, Director of Neurosurgical Oncology at CHOP.

"The Parkway Run...has helped so many families and patients in the area and internationally too. The work that's being done at CHOP on the research side to make new discoveries and bring new clinical trials to patients, especially with brain tumors, has had huge impact. And that impact comes through events like the Parkway Run," he continued.
