
PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A child was rushed to the hospital after being rescued from a house fire in West Philadelphia on Wednesday night.
Firefighters responded just before 10 p.m. to the unit block of South 55th Street, where witnesses reported heavy flames coming from the first floor of a home.
Residents on the block said they heard a woman screaming from a second-floor window that her child was trapped inside.
Emergency crews were able to rescue the child. There was no immediate word on the child's condition or whether anyone else was injured.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
