Delaware County: Cyber-attack caused system outages

MEDIA, Pa. (WPVI) -- Delaware County has confirmed its weeks-long government systems communication outage was the result of a cyber-attack.

The county says hackers were able to get into the system on June 26th, and in response, the county shut down its networks to protect sensitive information.

The county is still investigating the full scope of the attack.

Most of its critical systems, including ones connected to the courts, DA's office, and sheriff's office are back online.

Libraries remain impacted.

The county says if it finds that any employee or citizen private information has been compromised, it will alert those individuals.

The county was hit by a cyber-attack in 2020 and ended up paying ransom to the attackers.

Officials say, since then, it has made significant changes to its infrastructure.

Sources tell Action news, at this point, no ransom has been paid.
