DoorDash delivery driver shot and killed during delivery in Philadelphia's Kingsessing section

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A DoorDash driver was shot and killed while making a delivery in the Kingsessing neighborhood of Philadelphia on Tuesday night in what police believe was a targeted attack.

Philadelphia police identified the victim Wednesday as 43-year-old MD Mahfuzul Haque.

Officers responded around 9:30 p.m. to the 1000 block of South Ithan Street, where they found Haque lying in the street beside his running vehicle.

Police said he had been shot in the back of the head. A DoorDash delivery bag was found next to his body.

Investigators returned to the scene Wednesday, where chalk circles marked the locations of spent rifle shell casings and other evidence collected by detectives.

"It appears the shooter or shooters stood very close to the victim when the shots were fired," Philadelphia Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

Detectives believe the killing was targeted. Police said they checked the address where Haque was believed to be making a delivery, but the residents told investigators they had not placed a DoorDash order.

Neighbors said they were stunned by the violence.

"Nobody has the right to take anyone's life," said Shelly Brown, who lives nearby.

Another neighbor, who asked not to be identified, said he initially mistook the gunfire for fireworks.

"I thought it was firecrackers at first, but it was deeper than that," he said. "It was like boom, boom, boom, boom."

The same neighbor said he believes Haque may have been lured to the location.

"He had a family. He was trying to make a living," the neighbor said. "It's just a shame."

DoorDash said it is cooperating with investigators.

"Our hearts go out to their family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time," the company said in a statement to Action News. "We are fully cooperating with law enforcement to assist their investigation in order to help bring those responsible for this senseless act to justice."

Brown said the killing could have a lasting impact on the neighborhood and the delivery drivers who serve it.

"We really depend on them like they depend on us for their livelihoods, for their deliveries," she said. "They probably won't want to come to this block anymore."

Police have not recovered a weapon. The suspects are described as three men wearing dark clothing and masks.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.
