Exploding e-bike battery sparks fire inside Bristol Township home

BRISTOL TWP., Pa. (WPVI) -- An exploding e-bike battery is being blamed for a fire inside a home on Friday morning in Bucks County.

Firefighters responded to a home on Aspen Lane in Bristol Township after a homeowner reported that an e-bike battery exploded while charging indoors.

According to officials, the bike had been brought inside overnight and plugged in when the battery exploded around 10 a.m., igniting a fire.

Chopper 6 video showed a charred e-bike on the home's porch after it was removed from the residence.

Authorities said the home sustained heat and smoke damage and nearby furniture, including a couch, chair and ottoman, caught fire.

Everyone inside the home was able to escape safely. Some residents reportedly exited through a second-floor window.

One person suffered minor burns and cuts while dragging the bike outside, officials said.

The owner reportedly had replaced the battery just a few days before the fire.
