E-bike rider critically hurt in crash after allegedly running red light in Northeast Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- An e-bike rider was critically injured in a crash early Wednesday in Northeast Philadelphia.

It happened just before 12:15 a.m. at Cottman and Algon avenues.

Police say the e-bike was traveling south on Algon Ave. when the operator allegedly disregarded a steady red light and ran into the back driver's side of a vehicle that was traveling east on Cottman Ave.

The e-bike driver, who police believe is a man in his 30s, was taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital in critical condition.

A 27-year-old woman who was also riding on the e-bike, was taken to Abington Hospital in stable condition.

The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
