Family seeks justice after man fatally shot in drive-by shooting in West Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The search continues for a suspect in a triple shooting that left one man dead.

Tayquan Thorpe was shot and killed on May 20, 2025 around 11:15 p.m.

It happened outside a convenience store along the 5900 block of Market Street in West Philadelphia.

Police say he was one of three people wounded in a drive-by shooting.

Family members say Thorpe was not who the gunmen were looking for.

"Saying he was not intended target, how do you just shoot at people and then walk away and don't say anything," says Yvonne Brown, Thorpe's aunt.

"We all make mistakes, unfortunately some mistakes end with people's lives being lost," says Aneesah Thorpe, Tayquan's sister.

The other two victims recovered from their injuries.

The gunmen got away in a dark colored Nissan Altima.

The family is hoping someone comes forward with information to help bring them some closure.

"Come forward, say something. This could be anybody else. This could be your family member, this could be your child, your brother, your uncle, your cousin, your father. This could be any body. You know something, say something," says Thorpe.

"I held a whole conversation with him the day this happened, not knowing even in the conversation that I had with him that he was never coming home again," says Brown.

A $20,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in this case.
