ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (WPVI) -- A father in Atlantic City, New Jersey, has been charged with first-degree aggravated manslaughter in the death of his 3-month-old daughter.
The Atlantic County Prosecutor's office said Monday the child was found unresponsive at the home of 27-year-old Antonio Reyes on the 1400 block of Emerson Avenue back on Nov. 12.
She was rushed to the hospital but died from her injuries three days later.
The child suffered severe injuries determined to be the result of blunt force trauma to her head and neck, the prosecutor's office said.
Investigators say Reyes gave conflicting accounts of what happened.
He first claimed the baby suddenly stopped breathing while he was feeding her, police say, but later said he fell while holding her, causing the baby to hit her head.
Authorities also say he left the state and later sent messages to the child's mother saying the injuries weren't intentional.
Reyes has a court appearance set for this week.
