Flyers fan recalls catching Cam York's stick following OT win

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- It is a busy and exciting time to be a Philadelphia sports fan, with multiple teams competing at once and delivering moments fans say they will never forget.

With the Phillies trying to make it three wins in a row, the 76ers preparing to try to even up their playoff series against the Boston Celtics, and the Flyers advancing in the Stanley Cup playoffs, fans across the region are juggling emotions, schedules and allegiances.

"It's a good time to be a Philly sports fan," one fan said, calling it an "exciting time of the year, for all these sports to go down."

The Flyers provided the latest highlight, moving on to the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs after an overtime goal by Cam York.

For Michael Turetsky of Huntingdon Valley, the moment became even more personal.

"I turned to my right, it's my buddy who was like, 'Oh my God, Mike, Cam York's stick is right here.' And it was insane," Turetsky said.

Turetsky was sitting two rows behind Jack Brod, who ended up with York's stick after the game-winning goal. Brod even let him hold it and snapped a picture with his new prized possession.

"I see him skating in our direction, and he tosses a stick, which really took me by surprise," said Brod. "I'm just following the path of the stick and it was sort of just up there, sitting on somebody's shoulder. I just reached my hand out and grabbed it. A couple of people asked to take pictures with it, knowing that, you know, we're in Philly, I was a little bit reluctant for a second that somebody might run off with it."

Turetsky said it was a top Philly moment.

"Being a Philly sports fan for 30 years, it's an all-time moment. I've been to the World Series, I've been lucky enough to go to Eagles playoff games. This might top all of them, honestly," Turetsky said.

The Flyers' success appeared to spill over into the city, at least at merchandise stands during the first game of a Phillies doubleheader, where Flyers gear dominated sales.

"Yeah, the Flyers are doing well... that's the only thing selling. Flyers shirts," one vendor said.

With another Phillies game and a 76ers playoff game on the same night, some fans said they were still trying to figure out how to catch as much action as possible.

"Probably go to Xfinity Live for a bit, and then go right to the next game here... then splitting off," said Joe Pileggi of Warminster.

As the games continue, fans across the city are savoring a rare stretch when all eyes - and hopes - are on Philadelphia's teams at the same time.
