Multi-million dollar plan aims to fix sports complex traffic woes in South Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A new multi-million dollar plan aims to make getting in and out of the sports complex in South Philadelphia easier for fans.

Traffic has long been the nemesis of sports fans heading to watch games in person.

Many of us have been guilty of leaving games early in an attempt to beat the traffic, or waiting in a long line of drivers just to get into the complex.

On Thursday, Governor Josh Shapiro and other city leaders announced they are working to change that.

Leaders from all four major Philadelphia sports teams gathered with Shapiro to share the plans, which will include a new 76 westbound lane, as well as AI-timed traffic signals.

The plan will cost roughly $15 million and is expected to be completed by 2028, just ahead of the new stadium opening in 2030.
