Former Greyhound bus terminal reopens in Center City Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- After sitting vacant for years, the former Greyhound bus station in Philadelphia's Center City has reopened.

The first bus pulled off just after midnight, with riders quickly taking advantage of the newly reopened facility at 10th and Filbert streets.

"I love it. It smells good in here. Very welcoming so far, can't say anything wrong," said Imani Oyola, of Philadelphia.

The Philadelphia Parking Authority reopened the former Greyhound Terminal as "The Transportation Center," serving riders traveling from Philadelphia to other cities, including New York City, Boston and Washington, D.C.

"Last time I came here was in 2024, and it was very terrible standing along the street waiting for the bus and there was no specific place to sit, so coming back today and seeing this beautiful place -- it looks calming," said Garvee Sharif, of Richmond.

Officials said the $4-million renovation project includes additional seating, updated bathrooms, more bus bays and full ADA accessibility.

"The bus station is the gateway to the city. It's the first impression passengers get when they get off the bus and this does the city justice," said Danielle Veronesi, senior director of marketing for Peter Pan.

The terminal shut down in 2023 when plans were underway for a proposed Sixers arena project that ultimately did not move forward. During that time, bus riders waited outdoors at locations, including 2nd and Spring Garden streets.

"I think it's great. Safe, clean, well managed -- so pretty happy with this," said Carolina Cao, of New York.

The Philadelphia Parking Authority said the goal of the project is to create a safer and more welcoming first impression for visitors arriving in Philadelphia.

"It really is amazing because I've been at Greyhound stations really tore up and this place is really nice. It's a big difference," said Mike Zullo, of Center City.

Officials said the project was completed in time to welcome tourists visiting Philadelphia for major celebrations this summer.
