Free Toll Friday returns to the Atlantic City Expressway to kick off Memorial Day weekend

HAMMONTON, N.J. (WPVI) -- Memorial Day Weekend is underway, which means Free Toll Friday will return during the evening rush along the Atlantic City Expressway.

Chickie's and Pete's will pay for all tolls for cars traveling eastbound toward the Shore through the Egg Harbor Exit during rush hour from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.

But first, they're going to throw a party at Farley Service Plaza along the AC Expressway from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Drivers will be able to grab free crab fries during that timeframe.

There will also be an outdoor car show with more than 70 organizations, vendors, artists and exhibitors.

When it comes to hitting the road, AAA is predicting a slightly higher number of drivers this holiday weekend compared to last year.

Gas prices being $1.50 per gallon higher this year, along with the rainy weather, could lead to some adjustments if you don't plan ahead.

"We did not check the weather on the way here," said Abdul Sheikh.

He's driving from Springfield, Pa. to the beach at Ocean City.

"Hopefully it won't rain while they're there," said Sheikh

It's forecasted to rain frequently over the course of the four-day weekend.

You should have an easier time on the road if you leave before 11 a.m. Friday morning.

AAA says the worst time to drive on Friday will be between noon and 8 p.m.

Traveling earlier in the day or later in the evening will be your best bet each day this holiday weekend.
