BRIDESBURG, Pennsylvania (WPVI) -- This Memorial Day, fallen soldiers were honored throughout the streets of Bridesburg in a parade.
"This all started back after World War II. 1946, and it's been continuous since... For me, I never served, but I've spent most of my life helping veterans out...A lot of our veterans are passing away and it's...a lot of non-veterans that actually do the parade with me, but they're here every year because they believe in the same thing I do," said Parade Adjutant, Gary Roman.
The Commander of Bridesburg American Legion Post 821, Ray Lewandowski, was the parade's Grand Marshal.
"I grew up in the neighborhood, so I've been at the parade ever since I was a little kid. And I would sit out, watch the parade and say 'boy, I wish I could march one day,' and here I am," said Lewandowski.
"I was in the United States Marine Corps, a Vietnam vet. I was proud I could serve my country. We got to pass that on to generations for our younger people to know what the parade is all about. It's supposed to be a day of memory to remember our fallen," he continued.
