Philly City Council passes historic legislation on ICE enforcement

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Philadelphia City Council passed historic legislation Thursday that places new restrictions on immigration enforcement activities in the city.

Supporters applauded inside City Council chambers as a package of seven bills was approved.

Among the key provisions, the legislation prohibits U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, as well as other law enforcement officers engaged in immigration enforcement, from wearing masks or using unmarked vehicles while operating in Philadelphia.

The package also bars city agencies, including the Philadelphia Police Department, from collaborating with ICE and other federal immigration enforcement agents.

In addition, the legislation prohibits city agencies from collecting information related to a person's citizenship or immigration status.
