Phillies FDR Park cleanup is a home run for Earth Day

SOUTH PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (WPVI) -- Employees from the Philadelphia Phillies volunteered their time to support their local green spaces.

It's part of their annual Earth Day tradition to beautify FDR Park, which neighbors Citizens Bank Park.

This was part of a nearly 20 year collaboration with Fairmount Park Conservancy.

"Fairmont Park Conservancy is a private nonprofit, but we are the city champions of the city parks. We basically work with the city of Philadelphia to advocate, raise funds, plan, design...make Fairmount Park as vibrant as it could be across the city of Philadelphia," said Tony Sorrentino, Chief Executive Officer of Fairmount Park Conservancy.

Efforts like these are part of the Philadelphia Phillies' "Red Goes Green" program, which began in 2008.
