WEST PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (WPVI) -- When West Philly kids seek to express themselves through art, they can find it all within the "Power of Paint."

Whatever emotions and traumas they may endure, they need to look no further than a paintbrush and a canvas.

It's an art academy developed by Teisha Brown, where mentors guide them through each brush stroke, providing them lifelong experiences and connections.

"Art is a language, right? And so they speak to us through that. They find ways to express themselves that they may not necessarily have words," said Brown.

"We've seen anger. We see grief. A lot of grief. We have a lot of children who are victims of gun violence. And so a lot of times they don't always understand what's happening, but that doesn't change what they're experiencing. And so, art is a way for them to show that," she continued.
