Philly Pride 365 Kicks off Pride Month in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- June 1 marks the start of Philly Pride Month, and this June is packed with everything from parties to community events to tributes to critical conversations.

It kicks off with a huge festival this weekend.

Philly Pride 365 is hosting Pride on the Parkway this Sunday, June 7. It's our city's largest LGBTQIA+ civic celebration.

It will fill the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, with Philadelphia icon Patti LaBelle being honored for her cultural impact.

"She has been a person who has been an ally to our community for decades," says Tyrell Brown, the founder of Philly Pride 365. "To be able to celebrate her and award her that day with a full lineup and a finale that is going to be for the ages, celebrating her legacy, will bring joy."

Close to 150,000 people are expected to attend the event, which will span the Parkway from 21st Street to the Art Museum.

"I think joy is an act of resistance, especially with all the things that our community navigates 365 days of the year," says Brown. "This is to be able to smile, celebrate, to wrap our arms around each other and say: love is love."

Pride on the Parkway runs from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, with live entertainment, community organizations, LGBTQIA+ vendors and makers, food and beverage experiences, wellness activations and cultural programming.

The month is packed with events, including a traveling activation that brings the iconic 1,000-foot Pride Flag across the tri-county and tri-state area.
