PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A 30-year-old Camden man is recovering after police say he was shot during a road rage incident on the Vine Street Expressway Saturday night.
Officials said the shooting happened around 10:15 p.m. as the victim was driving east on the Expressway.
Someone in another vehicle opened fire, striking the man once in the leg. He was able to drive toward the base of the Ben Franklin Bridge to get help.
Police said the victim was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
Several bullet holes were seen on the victim's gray Honda Civic.
"I'm not a fan of road rage. I know people get upset when they drive, and you need to take a deep breath and calm down and respect everybody and be kind," said Mark Deluca of California.
Community members expressed concern that such incidents are happening far too often. "You don't want to say anything to these people, you can't blow your horn or anything, cause who knows they may pull out a gun and shoot you," one person said.
Data compiled by 6abc shows road rage shootings spiked to 16 incidents in 2023. There were nine in 2024, and so far this year, six have been reported.

Rickey Duncan, founder and executive director of the NOMO Foundation, said the group is addressing the issue with young drivers.
"We want to make sure that they're patient while they're driving, they're safe while they're driving, and most importantly, they're legal while they're driving, so it's important for them to know the etiquette of the road," Duncan said.
The foundation hosted hundreds of children on Sunday for free "stay safe classes," which included lessons on driving. Students received both classroom instruction and on-the-road practice to help them prepare for their licenses.
"If you're on the road and someone does this, what are you going to do? If they beep at you, are you going to beep back? Because no, we're seeing that people are pulling guns on people when they beep back," said Chanice Smith, the foundation's chief of operations.
Police said no arrests have been made and no description of the suspect's vehicle has been released. Investigators interviewed the victim at the hospital and processed his car for evidence.
