Philly moms in need can receive a 'Home From Shana'

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (WPVI) -- For pregnant mothers bearing their future children, there's a place where they can call home in times of dire need.

It's in honor of LaShana Gilmore, who passed away during childbirth.

Now in her memory, new moms can receive "A Home From Shana."

"We are a nonprofit, raises awareness of the black maternal health crisis, along with providing supportive resources for pregnant, postpartum and families during childbirth. And our core program is 'LaborLiveLove,' which provides supportive housing for pregnant women who are experiencing unstable housing," said Cleopatra Robinson, Founder and Executive Director of A Home From Shana Foundation.
"My best friend, LaShana, she was healthy. She had a college degree, and LaShana's concerns still went unheard. And on July 26, 2019, LaShana was able to give birth to a healthy, beautiful baby girl. But she lost her life doing so...I had no choice but to get to work," she continued.

The LaborLiveLove program opens the doors of their home base to women in need of emergency housing.

They also provide postpartum support groups at their site.
