PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The Philadelphia All-Stars Marching Band was forged out of friendship to fill a void.

Friends and band directors, Brian Vanhook and Michael Clark, are from West Philadelphia High School and Dobbins High School, respectively. The two schools make up one band.

"Two like-minded programs trying to bring marching and that culture back into Philly," said Clark.

"Everyone has heard the saying: 'One band, one sound,'" said Vanhook.

This year, the Philadelphia All-Stars Marching Band will be playing along the 6abc Dunkin' Thanksgiving Day Parade route.

Dunkin' also hopped in on the fun in the Yard at 6abc Studios on Friday.

"This year is our fifteenth year as the title sponsor of the 6abc Dunkin' Thanksgiving Day Parade," said Jill Fives.

For the student musicians, being a part of the band is a chance to show off their talent and expand their strengths.

"Music helps me with my emotions. It helps me express how I feel," says Dobbins High School senior Carrie Amore Green.

"I think you have to go out of your comfort zone, because you may like it. You will definitely learn a lot about yourself," says West Philadelphia High School senior Braeden Strickland-Lewis.

You can see more of the Philadelphia All-Stars during the 6abc Dunkin' Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Coverage begins at 8:30 a.m. on Thanksgiving on 6abc.
