LIMEKILN, Pa. (WPVI) -- Nancy and David Russell adopted Buddy and Gracie after they realized they would be good company for each other.

Buddy is about 5-years-old and a Beagle. Gracie is a Black Lab mix. She is just a year old.

Nancy says, "They get along beautifully. They are good friends.

David adds, "He likes people and she'e just the opposite. She loves all doggies.

But, this odd couple have become a perfect match.

"Buddy was adopted September 27, 2013. He wouldn't play, wouldn't do anything, so that's when we said, we have to get Buddy a playmate," said Nancy.

Gracie came along a year later and has brought Buddy's personality to life.

Nancy says, "Gracie has shown him how to chew on bones and toys."

"And, wherever Buddy goes she follows," adds David.

It's only fitting that the rescue that saved them is called The Buddy Rescue Foundation.

Barbara Smith is the President. She says, "Just living a life that they couldn't have dreamed of, that I couldn't have dreamed of, and that's really rewarding."

Since founding the organization in 2008, Barbara has saved hundreds of animals and she brings the alumni together annually to share their stories at the Buddy Rescue Foundation picnic.

"They get their little alumni scarves," said Nancy.

"Every one of them is a story and there's always a twist or a story or an angle to tell and its really so nice," adds Barbara.
