Shoplifters start fire in attempt to escape Dollar Tree store in Burholme section of Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A pair of alleged shoplifters tried to escape through flames on Wednesday in the Burholme section of Philadelphia.

Police say the suspects were caught in the act at the Dollar Tree on the 7900 block of Dungan Road.

When they were stopped, authorities say they set items on the floor on fire.

They were taken into custody a short time later.

The fire department responded and quickly got the fire under control.
