Stone Harbor man receives a serendipitous moment through a message in a bottle

STONE HARBOR, New Jersey (WPVI) -- Doug Basile walks the beaches of Stone Harbor as part of his routine.

He strolls along the shore and will pick up litter if he finds it to beautify the area.

Recently, he picked up a bottle out of the sand, thinking it was just trash.

When he looked closer, he realized that there was a message rolled up in that bottle.

The message came from a woman named "Kim," describing what she thought might be her last beach day with her 85-year-old mother.

What hit Doug even harder was that he himself lost his mother at 85-years-old this summer.

The message seemed to have found the right person at the right time.
