Philadelphia students celebrate women's history with mock election

PHILADELPHIA -- Students at Franklin Towne Charter High School in Philadelphia's Bridesburg section stepped back in time to get to know the leaders of the women's suffrage movement.

The students held a mock election on Monday. They voted for candidates such as Susan B. Anthony, Ida B Wells or Sojourner Truth.

The event was sponsored by the League of Women Voters and the Philadelphia City Commissioner.

It highlights the progress women have made in securing the right to vote in celebration of International Women's Day.

Organizers say they also wanted to familiarize students with the voting process and register eligible students to vote.
