South Jersey track coach accused of sexually assaulting student

GLOUCESTER TWP., N.J. (WPVI) -- A South Jersey track coach has been charged with sexually assaulting a student.

Joel Deanley Jr., 26, of Gloucester Township, was arrested Wednesday on charges including sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

According to investigators, Deanley was employed as an aide at Timber Creek High School, where he also served as head coach of the boys and girls winter track teams, assistant football coach and assistant coach for girls spring track.

Police said they were contacted Tuesday regarding allegations that Deanley sexually assaulted a high school student.

According to court documents, Deanley is accused of engaging in sexual acts with the student on three occasions between June and August.

Investigators said Deanley admitted to the acts during questioning.

Deanley is being held at the Camden County Correctional Facility pending a detention hearing.

The Black Horse Pike Regional School District released the following statement on Deanley's arrest:

"The Black Horse Pike Regional School District has become aware of the criminal charges filed against a Timber Creek High School staff member.

The employee has been immediately removed from all duties involving students and barred from all District property.

The District is cooperating fully with the Camden County Prosecutor's Office and the Gloucester Township Police Department.

The safety and well-being of our students remain the District's highest priority. We are committed to providing a safe learning environment and will continue to take all appropriate actions consistent with our legal obligations and District policies.

Out of respect for the privacy of the student and the integrity of the ongoing investigation, the District will have no further comment at this time."
