Volunteers help kids with disabilities catch waves to share the 'Heart of Surfing'
ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey (WPVI) -- This annual tradition has made a big splash in the local community.
Each year, volunteers hop in the ocean to share the "Heart of Surfing."
It's part of a nonprofit's mission to ensure people of all abilities can be included out on the water.
"We actually started the program for my son Jamie, who was on the autism spectrum...he would go out in the waves with his dad. We lost Jamie in 2020....We carry on in honor of his legacy and continue with our work with Heart of Surfing," said Co-Founder and Director, Cindy Fertsch.
"We're all just here to lift one another... I'm honored to be a part of it because I get to know some of the coolest kids in the world," she continued.
