Wissahickon SD names new principal to replace previously fired leader

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The Wissahickon School District named a new principal for Lower Gwynedd Elementary School after the prior leader was fired for allegedly leaving antisemitic remarks on a parent's voicemail.

The school board approved Dr. Miesja Cubito as the next leader of the elementary school on February 2.

She will begin her new role on April 6.

Dr. Cubito has more than 20 years of experience and has served as a principal, assistant principal, technology leader, and district-level collaborator in the Interboro and Springfield School Districts.

She will replace Philip Leddy, who district officials say self-reported leaving antisemitic remarks on a parent's voicemail and admitted the comments were not appropriate.

District leaders say Leddy believed the call had ended when he made the remarks to another employee in the room, which were inadvertently recorded on the parent's voicemail.

The board voted to fire Leddy in December.
