Woman fatally struck by vehicle in city's Parkside section

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Police are investigating after a car struck and killed a woman in Philadelphia's Parkside section.

The tragedy happened on the 4000 block of Girard Avenue around 2:40 a.m. Sunday.

According to police, a vehicle was traveling eastbound on Girard Avenue when a pedestrian entered the street mid-block, resulting in a collision.

The 52-year-old victim was transported to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

The driver remained on the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
