Woman killed after flames tear through homes in Bristol, Pa.

BRISTOL, Pa. (WPVI) -- One person was killed Monday night after a multi-alarm fire spread to neighboring homes in Bristol Borough, Pennsylvania.

The blaze broke out around 6:10 p.m. along the 300 block of Dorrance Street. Officials said crews arrived within minutes to find intense flames, quickly elevating it to a three-alarm fire.

"I was sitting on the porch and then all of a sudden something went woosh ... it just caught on fire very, very quick," said April Ballard of Bristol Borough.

Officials confirmed one woman was killed in the blaze. She has been identified as 75-year-old Mary Miller. The cause and manner of death are still pending investigation.

Flames grew dangerously close to electrical wires, which dropped and began sparking.

"The power lines were sparking and down when we arrived, which made it difficult to get in the front entrance," said Bristol Borough Police Chief Joe Moors.

The sparking lines forced crews to access the property from the rear.

"We had a fire that was well progressed. We did have crews try to make a rescue. Unfortunately, we were unable to get to the occupant," said Deputy Fire Chief AJ Deangelis.

At the height of the fire, nearly 100 firefighters responded from surrounding departments.

A total of six homes were impacted by the blaze.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
