PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A 29-year-old woman was killed after being struck by a vehicle just seconds after getting out of a rideshare in Philadelphia's Eastwick section early Monday morning.

Police say she was getting dropped off in the 7200 block of Elmwood Avenue just before 3:30 a.m. when a black vehicle, traveling at a high rate of speed, struck her.

She was hit with such force that police said the victim was launched into the back of a nearby parked vehicle before landing on the sidewalk.

The rideshare driver told police it happened so quickly, they could only tell it was a black vehicle, and could not tell what the make and model was.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Police are working to learn more about the striking vehicle. The victim's identity has not yet been released.
