OVERBROOK PARK (WPVI) -- A 19-year-old man remains in critical condition after being shot in the face outside a water ice stand in the Overbrook Park section of Philadelphia.
It happened just after 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 7400 block of Woodbine Avenue.
Maxito Jean and a co-worker at the Sam and Gracie Water Ice stand were making orders when they heard two shots ring out.
Police say a group of three to five teens had placed orders when a man armed with a handgun walked up to them.
The suspect then opened fire into the crowd, striking a 19-year-old in the face.
The bullets were fired towards the window of the stand, but Jean and his co-worker were not harmed.
There were also other people near the stand that scattered when the shots rang out.
Officers rushed the victim to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in critical condition.
Police say with all the people out last night, it was lucky no one else was hurt.
Philadelphia Police Lt. John Walker said, "It may have been some type of beef earlier that created this. But on a beautiful night where a lot of people are eating water ice and shots are being fired into this crowd... (it is) a dangerous situation."
So far, no arrests have been made.
Police are hoping surveillance video in the area can provide more information.
