The Philadelphia 76ers waived big man Montrezl Harrell on Monday, three days before the season-opening road game against the Milwaukee Bucks.

There is no guarantee that Harrell will play this season after undergoing surgery in August to repair a torn ACL and a meniscus tear in his right knee.

According to reports, the 76ers plan to continue being supportive of Harrell's rehab and recovery plan. Harrell hopes to return to action sometime after the All-Star break.

Harrell, 29, averaged 5.6 points and 2.8 rebounds in 57 games (seven starts) last season, his first with the 76ers. He was re-signed to a one-year, $2.89 million deal in July.

The eight-year veteran has career averages of 12.1 points and 5.0 rebounds in 515 games (36 starts) with six franchises.

Harrell was the 2019-20 Sixth Man of the Year with the LA Clippers when he had career-best averages of 18.6 points and 7.1 rebounds.
