SOUTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Eagles rookie Jordan Matthews hasn't played an NFL game yet but he is already developing a reputation as a hard worker.
Just about every team in the NFL passed on Eagles receiver Jordan Matthews in the draft last month.
However that's history as far as he's concerned. Matthews says he holds no grudges about dropping to the second round.
"You can't play the game of football angry. It's too much of a blessing to be able to play here so I just want to be best Eagle I can be," said Matthews.
And he means it. The speedy receiver out of Vanderbilt is not driven by the fact that he was overlooked coming out of college or even coming out of high school.
The 21-year-old is driven by the fact that he wants to be the best.
"You never know when it's going to be your last catch or your last chance to be here out on the field so you always want to make the most of it," said Matthews.
Matthews prides himself on his work ethic and preparation.
Before his pre-draft interview with the Eagles, Matthew studied game tape of Chip Kelly's offense.
Matthews says he's not just satisfied to have the job. After every practice he is the last guy out on the field catching extra footballs.
"Some people may say, 'Does it really help you get that much better?' Well I know for a fact it's not making me get worse," he said.
"You like to see a guy that's hungry like that and continues to work every day," said Nick Foles.
Matthews says he gets his work ethic from his parents and not his cousin Hall of Fame receiver Jerry Rice. Although Rice was known as one of the hardest working players in the NFL.
The rookie is not afraid to put in the time. However only time will tell if all his hard work pays off.
