The 94-year-old bridge is getting a major makeover, including a new, protected two-way bike lane.
The Tacony-Palmyra Bridge was closed Sunday morning due to a crash investigation.
The bridge closed to cars in 2021 after inspections revealed it was deteriorating.
The 700-foot-long bridge, originally opened in 1966, underwent extensive upgrades, including the replacement and widening of the concrete deck, structural steel work, substructure repairs, and fresh painting.
Crews are currently working on emergency repairs to the Market Street Bridge in Philadelphia.
Local media reported that scores of tourists were on the bridge when it collapsed, plunging many into the swollen river.
