Ben Franklin Bridge back open after celebration marks 100th anniversary
The Philadelphia landmark will close from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. to vehicular traffic for the free event.
PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The Ben Franklin Bridge, connecting Philadelphia and Camden, is back open, following a celebration to mark its 100th birthday.
The Delaware River Port Authority and the city of Philadelphia held an event to mark the occasion.
The celebration took place near the toll plaza on the Camden side from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
The Philadelphia landmark closed from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. to vehicular traffic for the free event.
People walked the bridge and enjoyed food trucks, carnival rides, live music and more family-friendly activities.
There was also a pop-up museum highlighting a century of the bridge's legacy, with exhibits showcasing bridge artifacts and pieces from throughout its history.
When the bridge opened in 1926, drivers had to pay just 18-cents. Now, the toll is $6.
