Like everybody else, we are fascinated to find out more about this young lady who has captured the imagination of so many folks who've watched her on TV.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- As if we needed confirmation that Mo'ne Davis has become a national phenomenon, she is on the cover of Sports Illustrated.

Like everybody else, we are fascinated to find out more about this young lady who has captured the imagination of so many folks who've watched her on TV.

Priscilla Sands is the president of the Springside Chestnut Hill Academy where Mo'ne Davis is a student. She says she finds herself emotional over the youngster she's watched grow into a star.

"I drove to the game on Friday and I have to tell you that I started to cry because I was so proud of her. Not for her pitching, that speaks for itself, but just for this little girl I've seen grow since she was 9 years old," Sands said.

Sands says Davis is everything you'd ever want in a child and a student.

"She's a happy middle school student. Someone asked me about the drama in middle school. Mo'ne rises above the drama. Mo'ne can sit at any table. She's silly, but she's laser focused," Sands said.

Her principal says it's not just who she is on the field, but who she is in the hallways and the classrooms that shows you what an incredibly special girl she really is.

"She has a huge strength of character. She stands up for students, she advocates for friends. She works hard in the classroom. I know people are looking for something negative to say, the way she's handling the fame is exactly who she is at school. She's polite, she's courteous, she is so humble, given everything," Sands said.

All the more evidence that Mo'ne Davis and the Taney Dragons really are winners before they even take the field Wednesday night.
