A Connecticut lawmaker is proposing a nationwide ban on tanning bed use for anyone under the age of 18.

Democratic Connecticut Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro is pushing for tanning beds to be regulated, much like cigarettes, in order to protect minors.

Pointing to rising skin cancer rates and increased marketing toward young people, DeLauro is calling for a national ban for anyone under 18.

Right now 43 states already have laws that prohibit underage tanning or require a parent's signature - including new jersey and pennsylvania where the legal age to tan is 17.

It's illegal for anyone under 18 to use a tanning bed in Delaware.
