CHARLOTTE, NC (WPVI) -- My child. My right.
That's how a North Carolina woman is responding to charges she faces for tattooing her 12-year-old daughter.
29-year-old Anna Yates was arrested last week after someone spotted a heart tattoo on her daughter's arm and reported her to social services.
Yates says the whole thing is unfair.
"There's other kids out here with tattoos and piercings and their parents signed for them, they had parental consent. I was the parent, I give consent for it, and I give it to my daughter," Yates said.
Police, however, don't agree.
Yates was charged with tattooing a person under 18.
She plans to appeal the misdemeanor in court next month.
